Fill Box

ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E comes with quite complete accessories. Inside, we find an AC Adapter with a USB Type-C plug . Of course, this tool is crucial to be able to charge the laptop. In addition, on the left side of the box there is a 3.5mm jack to USB Type-C adapter cable . A wise move from ASUS, because this laptop does not provide a 3.5 mm audio jack port on its body.

Along with the cable, next to it is an RJ45 to USB Type-C port adapter cable . This is suitable for those of you who want to occasionally use  wired internet for maximum download speeds.

In addition, as might be expected from a  convertible laptop , of course there is also an ASUS Pen as  a stylus that can be used for writing, drawing, and navigating the laptop. No need to buy the battery separately, because ASUS also includes an AAAA battery in the Pen.

All you need to do is unplug the top of the  stylus , and remove the black plastic tape so that the  stylus can be used. Finally, (and this is the part that is easy to miss because its position is quite “hidden”), there is a  laptop soft case  with a fairly sturdy plastic material.

We regret the absence of a USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter cable. Even though nowadays there are still quite a lot of peripherals that use USB type-A such as flash disks, mice, and external HDDs/SSDs. The reason is, there is only one USB type-A port on this laptop so you may have to buy a USB Hub if you want to connect multiple devices at once.

Body Design and Keyboard

It has become a hallmark of the ASUS ZenBook series to display a  premium body appearance with  solid build quality . Materials made of metal are almost completely plain, except for the “upside down” ASUS writing from the user’s point of view.

The body is so compact,  compact , lightweight. All the qualities that are sought in a convertible laptop that upholds super high mobility. Its thickness is only 13.9 mm with a weight of 1.3 kg.

For comparison, John M. Echols’ English Dictionary weighs about 1.1 kg. So carrying this laptop almost feels like carrying a dictionary book. And, this laptop is still lighter than the 1.5 kg ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 TM420 . Cool,  right ?

However, unfortunately the weight of this laptop is still inferior to the ZenBook Flip 13 UX325 model which weighs only 1.07 kg. In fact, the I/O port on the UX325 is more complete than this laptop.

However, we must say that the availability  of ports on this laptop is minimal. Surely this is the “price to pay” so that the laptop can be made as light and thin as possible.

On the left side of the body, there is one  HDMI  port and  two Thunderbolt™ 4 USB Type-C ports . It is in one of these USB Type-C ports that you can plug in a charging cable. While on the right side of the body, only one  USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port appears  next to the Power button.

Yes, the Power button is available on the side and not in the  keyboard area . Unlike some other ASUS ZenBook variants which feature the Power button next to the Delete button. So, you probably won’t turn off this laptop by accident.

What we were looking for was a memory card slot. Whether it’s for a regular microSD or SD Card. Unfortunately, none of these memory card slots. Likewise with the 3.5mm audio jack port which is also absent from this laptop. It doesn’t matter, the important thing is that the laptop is light to carry.

Oh yes, we will never get tired of reminding that this laptop is a  convertible . This means that he can be switched between regular laptop mode or tablet mode. The hinges feature 360-degree ErgoLift Hinge technology. So that the laptop can be bent until the upper back and lower back touch.

No need to be afraid about the durability or durability  of the hinge  on this laptop. ASUS claims that this laptop has passed the test phase of reaching 20,000 cycles. This means there is no need to worry if the laptop screen is rotated frequently. ASUS also claims that the  hinge  movement is smooth and can hold the screen from any angle.

The hinge with ErgoLift Hinge technology will also make  the keyboard slightly lift when in laptop mode. This is to make the position of the fingers when typing feels more natural and provides maximum comfort.

Because the hinge can be bent at any angle you like, this laptop also supports tent mode,  stand mode , and of course tablet mode. This laptop is also similar to a cellphone that has an  auto rotate feature , so the orientation will always adjust automatically.

Well, now switch to the  keyboard and touchpad ,  let’s go ! The keyboard on the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E has three different backlight  intensities that can be adjusted by pressing the Fn + F7 keys.

When the room is bright, the  backlight doesn’t really stand out even when it’s set to the highest intensity. In fact, this is a good sign so that the user’s focus is not so distracted. It’s different when the room looks dark. The backlight that it presents is very bright but also doesn’t hurt the eyes, really helping users who have to type even when the lights are off.

Meanwhile, from the size of the  keyboard , this laptop carries  an edge-to-edge keyboard so that from the left to the right everything is filled with the keyboard. This is what makes it look so  compact and concise. Typing also feels so comfortable, with  1.35 mm key travel and ErgoLift which makes it slightly lifted.

In the  touchpad section , you can also activate NumberPad so that you can type numbers more conveniently. The trick, just press the top right corner of the touchpad for 1 second and NumberPad automatically turns on.

Meanwhile, if you press the top left corner for 1 second, you can control the intensity of light that the NumberPad displays. If you swipe from the top left corner to the right, the calculator app will appear immediately. All of the features of NumberPad are like heaven for accountants or other professions that often deal with numbers.

Screen Quality

Do not rush to assume the screen is small just because the size of the laptop is 13.3 inches. You see, this ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E has a NanoEdge Display screen technology that only leaves a small bezel. That’s why,  the screen to body ratio reaches 80%.

There are two versions of this laptop, namely the IPS level panel and the OLED panel. The one we tested is one that uses an OLED panel. The screen resolution is FHD aka 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The screen supports HDR mode too, and we managed to enjoy YouTube content in 4K HDR resolution. As might be expected, the screen quality is so sharp with the beautiful color contrast that immediately spoils our eyes.

The screen of this laptop is also very supportive of creative industry players such as graphic designers, especially because it already has a Pantone Validated Display certification with a 100% sRGB color gamut.

This means that the screen can produce Pantone color reproduction with maximum accuracy. Talking about the screen, of course security is one of the considerations, right? Well, the screen of this laptop has passed an audit from TUV Rheinland so that it makes the screen really safe in the eyes.

ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E also includes an ASUS Pen which means this screen supports the use of  a stylus . Unmitigated, there are 4,096 pressure intensity supports so you can draw strokes with an accurate thickness level.

Even when we tried it, using the ASUS Pen was so “cute”. We can actually write on the screen like writing on paper with a regular pen. There is also a Fullscreen Snip feature to display screenshots  and make annotations.

When the ASUS Pen is brought close to the screen without touching it, a  cursor will appear . So, you can still  hover over objects on the screen to display  alternative text information or bring up a dropdown in the menu.

CPU Performance

To test the power of this ASUS Zenbook Flip 13 (UX363) processor, we will use several benchmark software  such as GeekBench and PCMark. This convertible laptop itself is quite tough in terms of CPU performance, using an Intel Core i7 1165G7 which is the 11th generation with the code name “Tiger Lake”.

In 2021 when this laptop is released, the use of Intel Core i7 in the 11th generation is very worthy of appreciation. The computing performance is certainly even better than the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX325 which uses an Intel Core i7 1065G7 (10th generation). Although they both present a 10 nm manufacturing process, the 11th generation Intel Core i7 features SuperFin technology.

In short, SuperFin technology uses the new FinFET and SuperMIM designs so that overall, it can improve performance even further. While in terms of RAM, the laptop is equipped with a capacity of 16 GB LPDDR4x. This amount of RAM is sure to make it capable of editing large photos or videos.

First of all, we tested this laptop with  PCMARK 10 synthetic benchmark . In this test, the ASUS Zenbook Flip 13 UX363 got a total score of 4,606 points. Of course, this score is quite large for a convertible 2-in-1 laptop class .

This CPU performance has increased compared to the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX325 which only scored 4,345 points in the PCMARK 10 test.

In addition, we also tested CPU performance with  the GeekBench 5 benchmark . The result, as can be seen in the image above. This ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363 got a single core score of 1,337 . Meanwhile, for the multi-core testing section  , it got a score of 3,788 points. This indicates that the laptop has a fairly good CPU performance.

Furthermore, the laptop was also tested for its performance using  Cinebench R15 . In the first test, it was seen that his 11th generation Intel Core i7 was able to reach  772 cb then in the second test it scored  718 cb . This 700s figure is fairly good, at least superior to the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX325 which can score a maximum of 630. However, when tested for the umpteenth time, this “cb” unit decreased to 400s.

We also continued to use the  Blender application to test how long it took the CPU to  render the BMW Car Demo file. So what about the results? Well , it took 13 minutes 52 seconds for  rendering to complete. It takes more than 10 minutes, which indicates that this CPU performance is not the best. But still fairly good for the size of a compact laptop.

Graphics Performance

In order to reduce the burden on the laptop, the company did not present a  discrete graphics card on this ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363. You see, convertible laptops must prioritize light weight over graphics performance. Instead of using an additional graphics card, users will experience the performance of the onboard GPU called Intel Iris Xe Graphics.

This graphics card is an improvement over the Intel Iris Plus Graphics packaged on the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX325. Iris Xe Graphics is clearly superior, pocketing the number  of cores as many as 96 pieces. More than the Iris Xe Plus which has 64  cores .

Meanwhile, Irix Xe Graphics is also made with 10 nm+ manufacturing and has a maximum frequency of 1250 MHz. Unlike Iris Plus Graphics, which has 10nm manufacturing and a maximum frequency of 1100 MHz. As for  the base frequency , both of them have a speed of 300 MHz.

Although it is a VGA that is integrated with the CPU, its performance cannot be equated with onboard VGA in general. At least, you can pair this VGA with some  discrete VGA in the entry level  segment  . To find out how powerful Intel Iris Xe Graphics is, we have also conducted a series of synthetic benchmark tests  .

Testing using 3DMark Time Spy revealed that this ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363 scored 1324 points. This really proves that Intel Iris Xe Graphics is not a figment VGA.

When compared to the Iris Plus Graphics embedded in the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX325 laptop, apparently this laptop is still tougher. ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX325 only got a score of 671.

In addition, we also tried to  render an image using the GPU in the Blender application . Compared to  rendering using CPU, apparently this time the duration is slower. The image above shows that the time required for rendering to complete is 15 minutes , slightly slower than  the CPU rendering which took 13 minutes.

We also returned to using Cinebench R15  to test the graphics performance. This time, the tests carried out were against OpenGL. The results are really impressive with a high FPS level in each of the 12 tests, the highest was when the first try reached 94.92 FPS.

Overall, this laptop VGA is quite stable at 70 FPS. Again, this UX363 variant is proven to be superior to the UX325 which is only stable at  a frame rate of 60 FPS.

The various synthetic benchmark  test results  above are indeed worthy of being used as benchmarks. But it doesn’t feel right if we don’t test it directly to play games. Because it needs to be acknowledged that VGA performance is indispensable for a  smooth gaming experience.

We also tried to run one of the  well-known open world  games , Grand Theft Auto V. This game is a  port  that was imported from PS3, coming to PC in 2015. Therefore, this game is still relatively casual compared to other AAA games released. year 2020 and above.

It can be seen that the laptop can reach 40 FPS in GTA V games, but then it decreases and is quite stable at 37 FPS . Both when the game character is driving the plane,  the frame rate is quite stable at 30 FPS .

It was only when driving in an environment where there were a lot of NPC crowds that the  frame rate dropped to below 30 FPS . But overall, users can still have a satisfying experience when playing GTA V.

Quite satisfactory performance can also be seen in the game Counter Strike GO . The highest frame rate in games is around 40 FPS . Nevertheless, there are still some FPS  drops at certain times to 20 FPS .

The two games above are not quite demanding games, so it is quite natural that a convertible laptop without  a dedicated VGA can run it well. Now, let’s move on to another game that is fairly heavy, namely Assassin’s Creed Unity.

We first use the Medium graphics setting with a resolution of 1080p . It turned out that the experience we received was not so satisfying. Rarely do we get FPS above 20 , and the average is only stable at a dozen FPS.

When changed to 720p resolution with Low settings , we restarted the game  . Then it turns out that the performance is not that much improved, it’s still  stuck  at  the 18 FPS frame rate , especially when there are a lot of NPC crowds. It was only when the character was running on the roof of the house or in an area with fewer NPCs, the frame rate increased from 20 to 26 FPS .

You could say, this laptop is not suitable for heavy gaming , considering that the Assassin’s Creed Unity game released in 2014 can’t be played properly. From a certain point of view, it’s still understandable Because, AC Unity is indeed one of the games with the highest number of NPCs on PC, even at the time this article was written.

Storage Speed

The laptop we tested happened to have an SSD capacity of 1 TB. A little information, SSD stands for Solid State Drive with a much faster read and write speed than HDD.

The SSD brand embedded in the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363 is Western Digital SN730 which runs on the NVM Express 1.3 port . How about the performance?

As can be seen above, the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E turns out to have a  sequential read speed of 3383 MB/s . Meanwhile, its  sequential write speed reaches 3080 MB/s! We were also quite surprised that the speed was this good. The reason is, the speed on the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX325 only reaches 2272 MB / s (read) and 1329 MB / s (write).

Battery Charging Endurance and Speed

Batteries are an important component in laptops, especially for a type of compact laptop that prioritizes mobility above all else. The battery on the ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E has a  design capacity of 67,292 mWh or it can also be rounded up to 67 Wh.

The claim from the company is that this laptop can last up to 14 hours. We also tried to use this laptop without connecting to casan. Some of the activities we do are browsing with tens of  tabs at once, watching YouTube, while downloading up to tens of GB via Steam.

The result is as can be seen in the red box above. It was noted that at 10 pm the battery condition was at 100%, then we removed the charge. After doing the various activities that we have described, the laptop battery is reduced to 2% at around 4 in the morning. That is, approximately the battery lasts for 6 hours.

Considering that the activities we did were quite drastic (using a brightness level of around 80% without HDR mode), we were quite impressed  with the battery life. Time of 6 hours is a long enough duration for  this bright level of brightness .

Then we also tested the charging speed. ASUS says that this laptop can reach a level of 60% in 49 minutes. Does it match reality? Let’s prove it.

Still with the same screen lighting conditions, we tried  to manually test fast charging . The result is as you can see below.

Charging time (per 10 minutes):

  • 10 minutes: 14%
  • 20 minutes: 26%
  • 30 minutes: 37%
  • 40 minutes: 48%
  • 50 minutes: 59%
  • 60 minutes: 69%
  • 70 minutes: 79%
  • 80 minutes: 87%
  • 90 minutes 95%
  • 100 minutes 98%

Charging duration  (per 20%)

  • 20% – 14:51
  • 40% – 32:18
  • 60% – 50:40
  • 80% –1:11:30
  • 98% – 1:40:12
  • 100% – 2:34:45

Apparently ASUS’ claim is true, although it’s a little off. In our tests, the battery reached 59% in 50 minutes. Yes, not much different from the company’s claim that it can reach 60% in 49 minutes.

However, the laptop ran into a snag after reaching 98%. Apparently it took a really long time to go up from 98% to 100%. So in conclusion  , this laptop can be charged to “almost” full in 1 hour 40 minutes . Meanwhile, if it reaches 100%, it will take about 2 and a half hours .

Is this duration fairly fast? Of course. Especially if we compare it with the ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 TM420 which takes even longer, which is 3 hours 40 minutes. In this way, ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363E users can use the laptop for field activities such as looking for cute scenery to draw, or other things.

Other Features

Apart from what has been mentioned above, of course, this compact sophisticated laptop also still has several other interesting things to discuss. One of them is WiFi 6 connectivity which is so fast.

We have proven it ourselves when downloading games from Steam that are up to hundreds of GB in size. By connecting to 75 Mbps internet via  a 5 GHz router , download speeds can even reach a maximum of 10 MB/s.

Not only that, above the screen there is also an IR Camera for use during  video meetings or biometric means to unlock. The facial recognition feature is so fast that we just opened the laptop for 1 second and the screen automatically went to the desktop. Unfortunately, this  face recognition feature doesn’t work at all when we wear masks.

This laptop also supports MIL-STD 810G military certification. That’s a sign that the laptop has gone through a series of tests that make it resistant to impacts, cold temperatures, and others.

If you happen to not bring a 3.5 jack audio adapter cable, no problem. The quality of the speakers of this laptop is worth pitting against by using the settings from Harman / Kardon. We’ve tried listening to some songs and the sound results are quite stunning.

Furthermore, there are also features that are very useful to support  work from home activities. Yes, this ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363 has AI-powered Noise Canceling technology on its microphone. Even if you are in  an online meeting using Google Meret or Zoom in  a  crowded cafe , your voice will still be heard clearly.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a laptop that is easy to carry but doesn’t completely ignore the performance side, this laptop is really worth considering. Even if it doesn’t come with a  dedicated VGA , the performance of the Intel Iris Xe Graphics VGA can still be used  for gaming comfortably even if it can’t be compared to a  gaming laptop .

In addition, the body design that looks  premium and sturdy also features a 360-degree hinge to support various modes. No need to worry about being damaged, this hinge has gone through the trial stage of 20,000 times and packs military certification. Check out some of the advantages and disadvantages of the following ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 (UX363E).
